Izmir Intercity Bus Terminal, in short Izmir Bus Station, is a bus station serving the city of Izmir, Turkey. It entered service in December 1998. Izmir Bus and Terminal Enterprises A.Sh. the name of the bus station operated by Izmir is IZOTAŞ Bus Station.
Its history
While Izmir's intercity bus terminal was serving in Basmane, it was moved to Halkapınar in 1975. in 1993, a project tender was opened by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for a new bus station to be built in Bornova, and the project of Merih Karaaslan and Ilker Aksu won the tender. In September 1996, a build-operate-transfer contract was signed with the municipality and a construction tender was launched. May December 8, 1997, the bus station, the foundation of which was laid, was opened on December 14, 1998. The operating right of the bus station belongs to IZOTAŞ until 2023. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality organized an architectural project competition in 2020 to build the main transfer center of the bus station.
Architecture
Izmir Bus Station was built on an area of 150.000 m2. it is the largest bus station in the country with a closed area of 120.000 m2. There are 146 platforms for buses at the bus station. There is also a parking lot for 1,200 cars, a three-star hotel, two fuel stations and a conference room for 300 people.
Services
There are 172 companies operating in the bus station that carry out transportation. Izmir Tourism, which started its activities in 2002, is one of the oldest bus companies in Izmir province. It is serving on platform number 26 at Izmir Bus Station. An average of 75,000 passengers are transported per day.
